in the Rome Daily Sentinel

This is the photo of one of Kathy Jensen's,    http://www.kathyjensendesigns.com/
 beautiful fairies. It appeared yesterday in The Rome Daily Sentinel along with an article about the Exhibit which opens tomorrow at the Rome Art and Community Center http://romeart.org/  Here is the text from the article:

From Rag Dolls to Porcelain; Polymer Clay to Papier Mache';
Needle -felting to Needle Sculpting: no matter what style of dolls you love,
you'll find a creator of them in the midst of the members of the
Central New York DOLL IS ART Guild!

The members, residing in all the regions of New York state, are united
by the love of creating one-of-a-kind figurative sculptures, known as Art Dolls.
Individually, their work has been viewed in national and international publications;
as well as many galleries throughout the United States. From the New Yorks State Fair,
to national and international competitions, their creations have won awards and accolades.

As a guild their work was published in a feature article
of the Summer 2006 issue of Art Doll Quarterly.
Since the creation of their guild in 2004 they have exhibited their works in gallery shows
showcasing the diversity, artistry and wonder of the figurative sculpture known as "doll".

It was a long, muggy, exhausting, day. But -- as I left the Rome Art and Community Center today, I knew that Suji and I had just set-up what is a wonderfully enchanting exhibit.
Each doll, so full of individual magic, sparkles with personality, a testament of the talent of members of our guild. From whimsical to fantasy, primitive to modern, tongue-in-cheek to inspirational the sculptures in the exhibit cover numerous themes, media, and style.
 I am now filled with expectation of a great opening reception. I cannot wait to be there Friday night to hear the comments.
 If you are in the Rome, NY area on Friday June 4th 6:00 to 8:00 PM  please stop by the Rome Art and Community Center and take in our exhibit. If you can't make the reception, the show runs through June 29.

May 2010

Our guild seemed to hibernate during the long New York winter months, but when spring came our members burst forward with their answers to a challenge given to them. Each made a doll representing "their fairy name" which they received when visiting the website: http://www.emmadavies.net/fairy
Just as their names varied so did their dolls as wonderful interpretations of the fairy descriptions transformed from text to three dimensional figures. These fairies will be on display along with other works of eleven members of the guild at The Rome Art and Community Center, http://www.romeart.org/  The opening reception of the exhibit is Friday June 4, 2010 from 6 PM to 8 PM. We hope you can join us there.
Exhibiting members are: Lexi Langley, Denise Giardullo, Maggie Newman, Suji, Kathy Jensen, Denise Carney, Kelly Bell, Barbara Barker, Annie Zygarowicz, Barbara Gilcher and Alice Dennis.
